President Barack Obama has learned the anchorman’s axiom: Unscripted television can bite.

Appearing Thursday on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” — the first time a sitting president has graced a late-night couch — Obama chatted informally about his mediocre bowling skills.

“I bowled a 129,” he told Leno. “It was like the Special Olympics or something.”

"First, I'd like to say thank you to President Obama!" said President Obama, who went on to remark that Guinness "tastes different in Ireland" - despite the fact that he has never travelled to the country.

Obama, reading the wrong speech, went on to thank himself before realizing the mixup. The president has netted some media attention in recent weeks for a heavy reliance on his teleprompter, reading prepared texts for even the smallest events.
